For a change today was what summer should
have been , blue sky , nice warmth ,little wind
and no rain only problem as the nights draw in
it leaves little time after the days chores to get
out and enjoy it .
We tried our best , me , Logan and Pete had a
walk down the local brook not far to travel and
for it's size it has some very nice fish.
We set up with little floats , small hooks and
line . Pete was soon into a nice Brownie .......
... I on the other hand was stuck in a tree not the best of starts
but as soon as I did get the float in the water a string of little
Roach followed . By this time Pete was busy rattling through
the species , Roach, Perch , Trout we decided to walk to the
spot Ihad lost a nice Roach from a few weeks back.
Pete had a better Roach first run then it was my turn
a good fish for the brook but sure some much better
fish can be caught .
After the disappointment of losing a good fish last outing this made
me feel a little better , the perfect end to a most lovely day .

So Close
I was so close to what I think would have been
in my opinion the best fish of the season.
I still feel gutted and quite honestly can
not get it out of my head .
This was not the biggest fish but it
could have been my best Roach from
the Ribble .
I fished with Mike who is on a dedicated
Salmon quest , I set up in a swift glide
some 20 yards below him and was into
a fish second cast a nice Roach . Next
run and a solid fish ''It's a Roach'' I shouted
joking ! thinking a Chub was the more likely
culprit ....... when it broke surface some few
feet at the front of me I could hardly believe
that a Roach it was , my heart skipped a beet
and I thought I would better net it to be safe .
I was waist deep and as I flicked the net over
my shoulder the hook pinged ''ARRRRGHH''
sure my voice echoed down the river .
Normally I just take these fish in hand
''if only!!!''
My only solace is I know the fish are in the
river now, ''god willing I get another chance'' .
Mike's put some time in after a Salmon
they are around and every minute spent
is a minute closer to his goal just hope I
can be with him when he hooks one he
deserves a bit of luck .

Perch
I met Pete a few months back on the Ribble ,
by chance a few weeks later we bumped
into each other in the Tackle shop ,we decided
on a few hours on the Ribble and although the
fishing was hard we had a good time. While out
he told me of a little water close to his house
seeing he only lives a couple of miles away I was
interested...........''It's got some cracking Perch in ''
He then described how you feed , catch small fish
then the Big ones appear !
It's been raining for the last couple of weeks and
after nearly getting out on Sunday I decided to
have a walk on Monday evening with Logan to
find the pond . I text Pete who said he would have
a walk and show us , like every good fisherman he
brought a rod and some tackle with him !!!
I'm so glad he did the pond reminded me of
the places I spent most of the school holidays .
We were soon catching little Perch as Pete
predicted , a few Roach as well at one point
I had about ten fish on the same maggot ,
Logan was busy finding a little Toad and
asking questions , he thinks Pete's great
because he knows so much about nature and
also Dinosaurs .
The float dipped yet again ''that's a little better''
and it was after a good scrap on Pete's rod ,
which by the way is a delight to use , a lovely
Perch well over a pound graced the net .
Just as predicted and only an average one!!!!
........... I 'll be back .

''A Thought''
A simple philosophy I have adopted over the years has been tested and re-enforced in the past few weeks. It is to celebrate those good and pleasing things encountered in daily life, no matter how small, with at least the same vigour as I bemoan the bad or merely vexing.
